Katrina loses all inhibitions to become the hot Item girl

Katrina loses all inhibitions to become the hot Item girlBy Subhash K Jha

Not one to raise her voice, let alone act aggressive in public Katrina Kaif has pulled out all stops to play the item girl in Farah Khan's Tees Maar Khan. Suddenly her manner and speech have become more demonstrative and loud at Malshej Ghat where the film is being currently shot in the burning sun from 5 am every morning.

Says Katrina, “We start so early because we have to catch the sunlight before it gets unbearable between noon and 3 pm.”

The gruelling schedule partly explains Katrina's fatigued collapse on location last week. But the lady is relentless. She wants each of her item songs, all choreographed by Farah and her assistant Gita, to be completely different in look design and execution.

In her free time Katrina has been shopping for clothes and accessories for each of the item songs, the cheaper the better.

All the accessories for the item songs are being collected piece by piece, so that when Katrina actually gets down to performing these numbers her entire physical look down to the bangles and hair-band are pre-decided.

After Raajneeti where she had to change her voice, diction, clothes and body language completely to look and behave like a politician, Tees Maar Khan is Katrina's second role in a row where she needed a complete makeover very far removed from her comfort zone.

Going from poised politician in Raajneeti to brassy item girl in Tees Maar Khan has been quite a journey. Katrina has been slogging it out in the scorching sun.

She says, “It's a challenge doing a complete look for my character. I guess I learnt that from Raajneeti. Every accessory makes you feel more like the character.”

Katrina has also been catching up on all the best item numbers in Bollywood from Mumtaz's Tik tiki tik mera dil bole in Humjoli in 1970 to Bipasha Basu's Beedi jalayele in Omkara in 2006 to understand the genesis of the item girl in Bollywood.

Then there's co-star item-boy Akshay Kumar who has just performed an item song in Farah Khan's brother Sajid's Housefull.

Akshay has been teaching Katrina the art of losing one's inhibitions while dancing on camera.

Says Katrina, “But Akshay's was a remix (Apni to jaise taise from Lawaaris). All my songs in Tees Maar Khan are original no remixes for me.

I've always wanted to freak out on camera, to just get wild. This is my chance.”

Katrina and Akshay just can't do without each other

The non actress that she is, it wasn’t easy for Katrina Kaif to survive in B-Town despite the help she was getting from her angry man- Salman Khan.

Until a certain Mr. Akshay Kumar happened to her.

He too was looking for a perfect screen partner after his wifey Twinkle Khanna banned him from working with Priyanka Chopra after too much talk of their link ups.

And Kat knew nothing about acting, other than sitting and looking pretty and running around trees.

They had undeserving and unwarranted hits like ‘Namastey London’, ‘Welcome’ and ‘Singh Is King’ together.

But both wanted to experiment and started doing films with other actors but things didn’t turn out to be as rosy as they thought they would be.

By the way, Akshay loves to do the same things over and over again and put in a mishmash of comedy, action, romance etc in all his movies. And Kat doesn’t have the prowess to do anything new either.

So ‘Chandni Chowk To China’ fell flat on its face and the chemistry with Deepika didn’t work at all.

Katrina’s movie with beau Salman Khan -‘Yuuvraaj’ did badly too.

So looks like now the twosome have realized their real worth now.

When director Priyandarshan was making a choice of heroine for his next venture, ‘De Dhana Dhan’ opposite Akki, Kat’s name came up.

Akki quickly recommended Katrina’s name as he again wanted to repeat the on-screen chemistry.

Priyan is happy too and they are currently shooting in Singapore.

All looks well as of now. Unless something drastic happens and the chemistry and everything else goes down the drain! Watch this space for more.

Vijay Mallya rescues Katrina!!!

Look at her! The pretty girl barely out of her teens is running from pillar to post. On Saturday 3 May she was in 3 cities within 12 hours.

"I was shooting in Goa and had to catch a flight to Bangalore for the IPL match on Saturday," she explains breathlessly.

"But I missed my flight. Fortunately Dr Vijay Mallya had me flown in his jet or I wouldn't have been able to make it…That's one of the advantages of being the brand ambassador for Dr Mallya's team (Royal Challengers). You know they'll make sure you'd reach where you are required in spite of maddening schedules."

Katrina loves cricket. "Everyone in London is crazy about the game. So I kind of grew up with the game. Here in India too it's a passion.

So when Dr Mallya asked me to be be their brand ambassador I agreed. I've known him for years and can't say no to him.We shot the music video with Sanjay Gupta and it was great fun."

She loves watching the IPL games and cheering for her team.

"The only thing I hate is to have fans approaching me, not because I don't like to connect with fans. In fact I love it. But while watching a match I don't want to be disturbed. People tend to get in the way when the matches are on."

The lovely lass from London is only now learning to connect with the public.

"Whether it's the IPL matches or my songs and dances for movies, I think I've really started having fun only now after Race. I've never enjoyed my dancing so much.

Yeah I think I'm finally unwinding both on screen and on stage. I recently started enjoying dancing on stage. I realized that at the Zee awards. Earlier I had neither the songs nor the confidence. Now I guess I've a bit of both."

Katrina Kaif Sizzling look in Black Dress

Katrina Kaif the sensuous beauty is now on covers of Cosmopolitan magazine April, 2008 edition. Her look in black dress, well she was glittering in that black dress.
Recently Race was released which hit the jackpot at box office, she gave her best performance in that movie and its quite obvious to say that she looked beautiful and glamorous in the movie opposite Saif and Akshay Khanna.

"I don't want to be called Hot" - Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif's sizzling number 'Sexy Lady' in Race, followed by the announcement of an item song in the sporty film Blue, has given the lady a va-va-voom image. She's surprisingly uncomfortable with her sensuous image. "I want to retain the image of the girl next-door. I don't want the hot image. Even in 'Sexy Lady', I'm fully clothed. I'm still the girl next-door. It's not the conventionally sexy kind of song. "

Race, where she's pitched for the sensuous sweepstakes against Bipasha Basu and Sameera Reddy has Katrina pulling out all the stops to erase the homely wholesome image.

The lady demurs. "I don't think so. Everything in Race looks larger-than-life very fulsome urgent and exaggerated. The actors are styled accordingly. I haven't done anything like it. Everyone's talking about it. I guess that's a good sign." Katrina is equally reluctant to accept that she's doing the most expensive item song ever in Tony's Blue.

"I wouldn't know about how expensive it is. But I'm doing a special appearance in Blue and the song-dance is part of it. Yeah I'm part of the film in a unique way. Akshay Kumar got me into it. As for the expenses, nowadays so many numbers are thrown into the public's face. I don't think it's right for actors to talk about the financial side of a film."

Next, ask her about the status of her relationship with Salman Khan and she clams up. "I'd like to keep that personal." Is it right to presume she's still with Mr Khan? "You can presume whatever you like. You can presume I'm an alien from outerspace, if you like. Right now I'm in a very happy place. Even rumours of us actresses fighting for space in Race is way off the mark. I've my own place in Race. My confidence-level has grown in recent times, and yes, it's partly because of the hits that I've had." After a number of films where her voice was dubbed Katrina finally used her own voice in Namastey London. And now she says she has dubbed for Race. "I've been working very hard on my diction. I try to speak in Hindi in my daily dealings."

After being with Salman who patented the name Prem in a series of films, Katrina seems stuck with another Prem, Ranbir Kapoor, who's her co-star in Raj Kumar Santoshi's Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.

"I guess they're worth being stuck with." She replies tongue-in-cheek. "I just love the script, my character and Ranbir's role. He's so much into his work. I'm also getting there. For me acting is no longer a hobby."

Katrina makes it five in a row!

Katrina Kaif is one actress in Bollywood who is cashing in as sun shines on her!

A perfect combination of glamour and talent, Katrina poses a serious threat to the Numero Uno spot and she is surely a damsel to be watched out for!!

Katrina Kaif Biography

Katrina Kaif was born on July 16, 1984, in Hong Kong, grew up in Hawaii and then moved to London. Even at the young age of 14, she got modeling offers and started out by modeling for a jewelry campaign. She was attracted to her father’s native land and the moment she landed in India she was flooded with modeling assignments.

She started off with photographer Atul Kasbekar. Later she got offers from Lakme, LG, Cola, Fevicol, Pantene, Veet, Kodak, and L’Oreal. She was chosen as the face of the year for the Lakme India Fashion Week (2005). The Lakme commercial made her very popular. Soon Kaizad Gustad, the director of ‘Boom’ noticed her and offered her a role in the film. Since it was the role of a model, she promptly agreed.

Katrina Kaif is half Indian and half British. Her father is and NRI and her mother is English, which makes her poor at Hindi. Initially critics were very harsh on her for her poor Hindi. But she has worked hard on her Hindi and started taking dancing lessons—both very essential to survive in the industry. Now she has started dubbing on her own. She has done few movies down south and is a popular face there already.

Although she wears bold outfits on films and ads, she is very particular about her clothes and she feels more comfortable in not-so-revealing clothes in personal life. And unlike others in her field she absolutely hates wearing make up.

Although she has been seeing Salman Khan for sometime now, she still refuses to talk about him in the media. She has made it clear that her personal life is not meant to be known to all and that no one has a right to pass any kind of judgment on it.

She has lot of exciting projects lined up. One of them is ‘Partner’ with boyfriend Salman Khan and Govinda. She is also doing ‘Apne’ in which real life father and sons Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol all stars together in the movie, for the first time. Then there is Anees Bazmee’s ‘Welcome’ with Akshay Kumar. Another film with Akshay Kumar ‘Namaste, London’ is all set to release on March.
