Karan To Rename His Film Jehaad

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor

The film which is based on the global terrorism topic was till now supposed to be titled as Jehaad as the actors of the film Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan were calling in their interviews. But it was never the official title. The producer Karan Johar and director Rensil D’Silva has become cautious about calling it as Jehaad, so planning to change it as Qurbaan.

As the global market is looking at the film with curiosity and suspicion, Karan doesn’t want to give any wrong signal by naming it as Jehaad. Jehaad is an Islamic term for Holy War, so the makers of the film don’t want to sound it in the favour of Islamic terrorism and put off the interest of global audience.

One source revealed, “As soon as the title Qurbaan is made official, Karan and Rensil plan to call a press conference to correct the media perception that the film is called Jehaad. Since Kareena and Saif used Jehaad in all their interviews, it will take some time for Jehaad to get out of the public’s mind. They have made a gripping thriller on terrorism. The narration is taut and uninterrupted by Bollywood formulae like songs, dances and melodrama. Kareena and Saif have even done one of the boldest love sequences ever.”

When asked to Rensil, he confirmed it and said, “We did consider it but it is unlikely that we will call the film Jehaad. Karan and I need to sit down and talk about it, but he has gone off to Cannes.”

Karan refused to comment on it and went off to Cannes. Karan represents an alcohol brand at Cannes. He will be walking the red carpet all alone. “That’s the status of my life- single. And that is how it shall be at Cannes, or anywhere else,” said Karan.

After Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, its Hrithik Roshan and his co-star from Kites the sensational Mexican model-actress Barbara Mori walked the red carpet at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
There were rumours that Hrithik and Barbara are seeing each other, but denying the rumours Hrithik says that he had learned to deal with such allegation and will do anything that needed to take for his film Kites.
“I wouldn’t give any attention to the rumour. It doesn’t matter as long as it is something to do with my film. Barbara is a great girl, a great co-star and friend. And I am very proud of my film. If tongues wag, I can’t help it. It doesn’t matter what people say. People talk, anyway,” said Hrithik from Cannes.
But, strangely they are not there to promote Kites; however the English version of the film will be unveiled there. Instead they are there for a Hollywood film named Bright Star directed by Jane Campion in competition for the Palme d’Or award of the festival.
Talking about English version of the film, Hrithik said, “We Haven’t made any changes, there are the usual songs and dances, but done in international style.”
Is there any plan to go Hollywood? “I will go wherever my work is appreciated and takes me. An actor always looks for a wider audience,” added Hrithik.
Other than Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori, Kites also casts Kangana Ranaut. It’s a romantic thriller in which Hrithik plays a dance teacher. The film promises some good dance numbers by three of the actors.

What’s Cooking Between Vivek and Anoushka

Vivek Oberoi and Anoushka Shankar

Vivek Oberoi and Anoushka Shankar

The hottest gossip going around in the B-town currently is that actor Vivek Oberoi and sitar player Anoushka Shankar (daughter of Legendary Sitar Virtuoso Ravi Shankar) are an item. But when it asked directly to them, they didn’t say anything clearly but admitted that they are ‘just friends’.

“Anoushka and I have become good friends. She’s a wonderful artiste and human being. She has performed to raise funds for ‘The Banyan’, a charitable trust that I’ve been the ambassador of,” says Vivek.

And when it asked to the Anoushka, she replied, “Vivek and I are good friends, but I don’t really want to say anything else. Karan Johar Dragged to Court

Karan Johar

Karan Johar

Karan Johar’s production house Dharma Productions is claimed by actors and vendors in Philadelphia, USA for non-payment of $150,000 (almost Rs. 74.4 lakhs). The actors and vendors were worked for Rensil d’Silva’s Kareena-Saif starrer Jihaad. According to the reports of local newspaper, the lawsuit claims breach of contract by Dharma Productions and its partner Swish Films of Melbourne.

But a source close to Dharma Productions has something different to tell about it. The source said, “It’s not Dharma but their online producers Swish who have goofed up with the payments. Do you know of Dharma ever defaulting on their payments? Karan’s father Yash Johar worked all his life to preserve his company’s reputation. Do you know how hurtful it is for Karan to be suddenly accused of such unbecoming conduct?”

Evidently, Karan will take action on their partner producers Swish for creating such a fraud.

The source continued, “Yes Dharma is suing Swish. Karan’s legal department is on the job. In the meanwhile Dharma has decided to clear all the payments of the Philadelphian crew, although the money had already been passed on to Swish for payment. But Karan would rather deal with the default allegation first and then take on Swish to get back his money.”

Now Saif and Ranbir to prove that Singh IS King

Akshay Kumar popularised the turbaned Sikh look in last year's blockbuster "Singh Is Kinng" and now Ranbir Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan will don turbans for their upcoming movies - a trend welcomed by the Punjabi film industry.

While Ranbir sports a turban for Shimit Amin's "Rocket Singh", Saif will be seen in the 'Sikh look' in his home production "Love Aaj Kal", which also stars Deepika Padukone.

Manmohan Singh, a prominent Punjabi filmmaker, is happy that the look has been adopted in Bollywood and accepted by audiences across India.

"Earlier, we had seen that a turbaned character is portrayed in a comical sense to add some humour to the movie. But now a turbaned hero sporting a beard is shown as a central character, " Singh told.

Hindi films have earlier had Sikh protagonists but the instances have been few. Those who have played turbaned Sikhs in the past include superstar Amitabh Bachchan in "Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo", Sunny Deol in "Gadar-Ek Prem Katha", Ajay Devgan in "The Legend of Bhagat Singh" and Salman Khan in "Heroes".

"The influence of the Punjabi language and its values are undoubtedly growing rapidly throughout the world. In fact, wherever we went for shooting or promotion of our movies in Europe and the US, we have seen that foreigners are keen to know more about Punjabi culture, especially about turbans, " said Singh, who is credited with modernising Punjabi cinema.

Singh has made successful films like "Jee Aayian Nu", "Asan Nun Maan Watna Da", "Yaran Nal Bahran", "Dil Apna Punjabi" and Miti Wajan Mardi". He is known for highlighting serious issues through his narratives.

Labh Janjua, a Punjabi singer who has made a mark in Bollywood with his rustic voice, is also upbeat about the prominence given to Sikhs in Hindi movies.

"Turbans and the Punjabi language are gaining prominence in both Bollywood and Hollywood. Besides seeing the protagonist of the movie sporting a turban, you can easily find a Punjabi song or inclusion of Punjabi dialogues to add colour to the movie, " he said.

"Recently, I also got an offer from a Britain-based actor and director to sing a bouncy Punjabi number in his forthcoming English movie. I guess the day is not far when we'll see Hollywood stars wearing turbans too, " quipped Janjua, who has crooned hit numbers like "Jee karda" in "Singh is Kinng" and "Hikknaal" in "Dev D".

Said Punjabi pop singer Amrinder Gill, who made his acting debut with Punjabi film "Munde UK De": "If I get a chance, I would happily flaunt a turban on the screen."

"The turban has its universal appeal as you can find a turbaned Sikh in every nook and corner of this world. So it is an attempt by Bollywood film producers to gain the attention of viewers worldwide, " he added.

Said Jasbir Jassi, another renowned Punjabi singer: "It's really good to see Bollywood stars wearing turbans. It has now become a regular trend. Everyone wants to cash in on this concept, but we are happy that it is also helping to propagate Punjabi values among the masses."

But at the same time Bollywood filmmakers should be cautious to maintain the dignity of the turban while portraying it on screen, he added.

IPL finale: Get ready for Shilpa-Katrina Dhamaka

Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty will join American R&B sensation Akon as he sings his Grammy award winning "Smack That" at the closing ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wanderers here Sunday night.

Organisers also said here Wednesday that Katrina Kaif will join a troupe of Indian and South African dancers led by award-winning choreographer Shiamak Davar to perform the Oscar-winning A.R. Rahman song "Jai Ho" from "Slumdog Millionaire".

The two actors will be the only ones performing at the finale, ending widespread speculation here that a bevy of Bollywood beauties would feature at the closing ceremony.

Caribbean music legend Eddy Grant will perform the ever popular "Walking on Sunshine" and his anti-apartheid hit "Gimme Hope Jo'anna", which became an anthem in the days when the white minority government of South Africa strictly regulated everything from music and song to social gatherings.

The five-week IPL will end on a high note for Shilpa performance-wise, but this will be clouded by the fact that her Rajasthan Royals team have no hope of retaining their champion status from the inaugural series last year.

Other highlights on the night will include a perfectly synchronised piece featuring renowned percussionist Shivamani and a group of Indian and South African drummers.

Apart from the various musical acts, the crowd will also be introduced to the Miss Bollywood IPL South Africa finalists, culminating with the crowning of the winner of the beauty competition, who will get a guided tour through Bollywood as one of her prizes.

This apart, 1, 500 flying lanterns will be lit and released while a thrilling pyrotechnics show using several thousand rounds of fireworks will light up the Johannesburg skyline as final awards signal the end of an unprecedented cricket event which was keenly taken up by locals, who also opened their hearts to the thousands of Indians who came to watch the series.

Neetu Chandra in trouble for her 'Lesbian' photoshoot

Recently, when actress Neetu Chandra (of Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! fame) agreed to do a bold photo shoot for a men’s magazine, she hardly realised it would spark controversy and outrage from political affiliates.

Neetu, who had agreed to do hot and sexy cover for ‘The Man’ magazine, was shooting along with model Krishikha Gupta outside the lobby of a 3-star hotel, when a group of the hotel’s regular male customers watching it by the pool, suddenly started raising strong objections, by indiscriminately shouting at her and the magazine crew.

But only when things spiralled into an ugly argument and the group started screaming “Jai Maharashtra” at the top of their lungs, did the magazine’s team and Neetu realise that things were out of their control.

Alleging that the shoot was promoting lesbianism, the group began getting aggressive and tried to physically harm the shooting crew.

They claimed to have connections with Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and threatened an agitation. They even tried to confiscate the camera, resulting in the shoot having to be abruptly called off.

“Though the concept about two girls getting very intimate was a bit outrageous, we were doing it very aesthetically.

But these men were a frustrated lot and couldn’t take the heat. They only saw nudity in our concept,” fires Neetu Chandra.

The actress explains, “First they tried to seek my attention with smiles and stares, so I acknowledged them.

But as I went on with my work, the whole group of men suddenly started feeling ignored and began creating a scene.

They did manage to scare me when they started to politicise the issue and scream communal slogans. That was when we had to stop the shoot.”

But now ‘The Man’ has decided to go ahead with the images they managed before the ruckus at the hotel began, raising speculation whether these sensational images will cause further problems when the magazine’s next issue hits the stands in a couple of days.

Akshay and Sanjay Dutt's faceoff is legendary

By Taran Adarsh

The film has been making news, right from its inception. It stars some of the biggest names in the business: Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Zayed Khan, Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta.

Australia sensation Kylie Minogue makes her debut in a Bollywood film (she has scenes too, besides the song). It has music by A.R. Rahman, lyrics by Abbas Tyrewala and sound recording by Resul Pookutty. All brands!

Most importantly, it's produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision, a production house that has earned tremendous respect for their fair dealings and larger than life movies: BHAGAM BHAG, GOLMAAL, MAINE PYAAR KYUN KIYA, JAB WE MET, KIDNAP and GOLMAAL RETURNS. It can't get bigger than that. BLUE is indeed hot, piping hot!

Now here's something that caught everyone by surprise. It's not directed by a Ratnam or a Dhawan or a Bazmee. It's directed by a rank newcomer - Anthony D'Souza - who hasn't assisted anyone before.

"Actually, John (Abraham) put me on to Ashtavinayak. They heard the script (of BLUE) and arranged for a meeting with Dutt-saab (Sanjay Dutt). The rest is history, " Anthony tells me.

In fact, Tony, as Anthony is called, had penned the script keeping Sanju and Akshay in mind. "When Dutt-saab heard the narration, he asked me who'd play the other lead and I said, Akshay. Dutt-saab was too gracious, he said he was very keen to work with Akshay (they hadn't worked together after AMAANAT) and if need be, he'd call him up, " Tony reminisces.

The very first meeting with Akshay also proved fruitful, with the actor agreeing to act in the film instantly. "All he asked was, will you shoot the way you've penned it? I can never forget Dut-saab and Akshay's deed. Had it not been their 'Yes', BLUE would've been in cold storage, " the first-time director smiles.

But their faceoff is legendary. In fact, it's said that Akshay felt cheated during AMAANAT (he got sidelined) and swore, never to work with Sanju again.

"In fact, Akshay asked me to watch AMAANAT, to see how good their chemistry was in that film. Believe me, there was not an iota of bitterness. You know something, both would come on the sets half-an-hour early everyday, sit together and exchange notes. The bonhomie was electrifying, trust me, " Tony clarifies.

What about John? The guy who put Tony on to the producers, isn't part of the film. "It was always Zayed. In fact, Dutt- saab especially called up Zayed and spoke to him about BLUE. As for John, he's sure to star in my next film. I owe him that, " Tony smiles.

Embarrassment coming Saif Ali Khan's way?

It happened with Arshad Warsi few weeks back when his two B graders released back to back. These were films that he had signed when he was going through a low patch and the Munna Bhai series was yet to happen to him.

So embarrassed was he that not only did he stay miles away from these releases – Kisse Pyar Karoon and Ek Se Bure Do but even joked about giving a prize to those who would dare to watch them.

Now same situation perhaps awaits Saif Ali Khan. Whose long stuck in the cans Sanam Teri Kasam is all set to release after having been ready since last 15 years.

Well known Music Company Ultra has plans to release it on June 19th. The film was originally titled Sambandh (Its name was also changed to Yeh Pyaar Hi To Hain) and was in the cans because the makers Sudhakar Bokade and Ultra and the film were in a legal battle.

They are now planning to release the film now to perhaps encash on Saif releasing his first home production Love Aaj Kal. We are sure Saif will try his best to avoid any association with Sanam Teri Kasam now. If one can recall its promos it had Saif who was miles behind what level of acting he has achieved now.

I am sure he would be cursing his luck that this film is releasing after so many years.

The director of Sanam Teri Kasam, Lawrence D’Souza (of Saajan fame) laughs on hearing the news and states, “I had really forgotten about this film. I had completed the film in a record time of just 5-6 months that time.

But the film suffered due to the differences that arose between the producers. Had my film released back then, we would all have been benefited because it had some really good music.

Saif had just then given a musical hit with Yeh Dillagi and my film’s other lead stars were the hit pair of film Sir - Pooja Bhatt and Atul Agnihotri. They all had given good performances. But I am glad that the film is finally coming to the theatres.”

Sudhakar Bokade who is the producer of the film when contacted tells us, “Yes, I came to know that Ultra people are releasing the film with a new name Sanam Teri Kasam. I hope it does well. It deserves too.”

All is well between Hrithik and wife Sussanne

Much juicy gossip was spread around in the print and electronic media about Hrithik Roshan’s so called proximity to his Kites co-star Barbara Mori at the Cannes film festival which they both attended for promoting their film.

Repeated video clippings of Hrithik putting his hand around Barbara’s waist during a photo call at Cannes was shown and comments passed about how his dad Rakesh Roshan who was also at the event was feeling embarrassed about it all.

One can recall, few weeks back there were rumour floating around that Hrithik’s wife Sussanne had left him and gone to stay with her parents doubting him having an affair with Barbara. Hrithik had clearly denied such a thing and so had his wife.

We saw the couple on Tuesday May 19th evening attending the Heroes Project and Mumbai District AIDS Control Society hosted 26th International AIDS Candlelight Memorial to reduce stigma and discrimination against those living with HIV.

They arrived together and throughout the event and also on stage were together and left together. Had there been problems especially after watching the clips of Cannes then it would have definately been evident at the event last night.

But there appeared no single sign of discomfort between the two as they looked a very much in love couple.

We just hope a certain section of the media finally shuts its mouth and stop creating unnecessary controversy disturbing the Roshan family’s peace of mind.

Can sleazy Aishwarya or Naani save Bollywood?

By Joginder Tuteja

Ok, so now it is turning out to be too bad to be true. All eyes were set on the Monday gone by as there was a wide spread belief that the meeting held on this day between producers and multiplexes would result in a positive outcome.

However that was not the case to be, what with the talks failing all over again. There is yet another meeting planned in a week from now and one hopefully looks forward to some better results then.

So what happens till then? Well, practically nothing. Coming weekend will see another bunch of films coming out of cold storage - 'Detective Naani', 'Aishwarya' and 'Yeh Pal Ho Na Ho Kal'.

And you certainly don't need to be a Nostradamus to predict the ultimate fate of each of these three films. The point is simple - even if there was no strike, none of the multiplexes would have in any case released these films at their facilities.

'Detective Naani' may have still managed a show or two but the remaining two movies didn't have any chance whatsoever to be grabbed by reputed theaters. No wonder, Bollywood is already staring at three more box office disasters this weekend in a year that has not just seen more flops than hits but in fact even more disasters than flops.

'Detective Naani' is a film which is still waiting to make up it's mind around whether it is a kiddie film or a fun film or the one for the senior citizens. With zero star cast coupled with zilch buzz or hype, the movie would struggle to go beyond it's first weekend - multiplexes or no multiplexes.

As for 'Aishwarya' and 'Yeh Pal Ho Na Ho Kal', the two films are by the unknowns, about the unknowns, star unknowns and would possibly be seen by complete unknowns.

While 'Aishwarya' is a clear cut sleaze flick in the offering, 'Yeh Pal Ho Na Ho Kal' claims to be a film about friendship but one still doesn't have any expectations whatsoever from it. Expect empty theaters, mainly single screens, greeting the two films on their Friday release.

Which brings one to '99' which should find itself lucky to have another open week for itself.

This provides this Kunal Khemu and Boman Irani starrer gets another opportunity to prove it's mettle all over again and reaffirm amongst audience that it has in it to be given a dekko. Now one just wishes that the producers too wake up to the fact and up the ante for the film's promotion.

Surya from Tamil Ghajini will play Vivek's nemesis in RGV's Rakta Charitra

This is turning out to be some frantic time at the Ram Gopal Varma office, what with an announcement a day being made, courtesy three of his films being at different stage of production - Agyaat, Rann and Rakta Charitra.

The latest piece of news that has made a sudden impact is that of an actor finally being finalized to play the role of Suri in Rakta Charitra. He is none other than Tamil superstar Surya who played the part of the lead protagonist in Ghajini much before Aamir Khan reprised the same role in the film's Hindi version. Making a mark with dozens of tattoo marks on his body years back, he created history with Ghajini before Aamir Khan took the film to an altogether different level.

Now Surya has been cast as Paritala Ravi's [Vivek Oberoi] nemesis in Rakta Charitra, one of the most ambitious ventures of Ram Gopal Varma in the recent times. This has come as a complete surprise since till about a fortnight back; Manoj Bajpai's name was floating around the industry circles. Even though Ramu had denied Manoj's inclusion by stating that it was not yet decided that who was going to play the part of Suri, he had re-emphasized the point that his character was very integral to Rakta Charitra, especially in the second part of the film (for the uninitiated, Rakta Charitra is a two part film that would be released in January and April 2010 respectively).

With Surya's name being confirmed for the said role, it dashes the hopes of countless Bollywood followers who were hoping for a casting coup of sorts by seeing Ramu make peace with both Vivek Oberoi and Manoj Bajpai in one go.

Says a source attached to the film, "This character is quite strong and Ramu was mighty impressed with what he saw of Surya in Ghajini and some other films that he has done. He felt that for a strong role like that of Suri, a stronger personality was the need of the hour. Also, bringing Vivek and Surya on the same platform is bound to make heads turn as their roles are such that their scenes together would get some high voltage drama on screen."

Though Surya was unavailable for comment, sources close to him state that he was just waiting for an opportunity like Rakta Charitra to come his way. "He was noticed by Hindi filmmakers after his Tamil Ghajini but came into quite some limelight once Aamir's version of the film released. Suddenly, Bollywood woke up to him and he was being approached with interesting offers. However, Ramu's offer turned out to be the most tempting of the lot and he grabbed it with both hands", he says.

Movie Preview Kites

One of the most eagerly awaited films of the year is the Hrithik Roshan- Kangna Ranaut- Barbara Mori starrer Kites.

While the film is likely to hit theatres only in the latter half of the year, it has already generated tremendous buzz among the trade circles.

Everything right from Hrithik's sizzling hot chemistry with Barbara Mori to his super cool dance moves is being spoken about. However, not much is known about the film except for the fact that Hrithik plays a salsa dance instructor.

Big Pictures are in fact all keen to market Kites to international buyers, distributors and media during the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. In fact, a brief description of the film's premise is also mentioned in some websites which provide information about this year's Cannes International Film Festival.

The premise of the film goes like this:-

In the harsh terrain of the Mexican desert, a mortally wounded man is left for dead in the heat of the desert sun.

This is J (Hrithik Roshan) - once a street smart, carefree young guy and now a wanted man. As death looms, the only thing that keeps him alive is the quest to find the love of his life, Natasha (Barbara Mori).

A woman, betrothed to another man, surely destined for J. A woman, who comes into his life like a bolt of lightning, and changes his life forever.

Love is a moment. The moment J and Natasha saw each other, words were not necessary. In that moment, they knew instantly that they belonged together.

But, something went wrong. The ensuing fight of the two lovers results in a deadly chase. J battles death but nothing can prepare him for what he is about to discover.

Kites is a story of love that goes beyond barriers, boundaries and cultures. It is a story of passion that defies every rule, of a relationship which takes two lovers on a journey that is filled with violence and death, of precious moments that are unforgettable. Finally it is a story of betrayal that is beyond comprehension.

While one will have to wait and watch if this is indeed the film's plot, on first reading it does seem very exciting and intriguing.

Movie Preview Teen Patti

We all have read about the various Hollywood celebrities going in and out of Leena Yadav's Teen Patti but what we are really interested is what the film is all about.

Some say it's the remake of a Kevin Spacey starrer 21, a high powered gambling movie. But now the entire speculations end here as we bring you the exclusive preview watch of what Teen Patti is all about. Here's a sneak peek into the film.

Perci Trachtenberg (Ben Kingsley), widely regarded as the world's greatest living mathematician, meets Venkat Subramaniam (Amitabh Bachchan), a reclusive math genius from India, who has cracked a theory that could redefine the principles of probability and randomness.

Aware that he is on the precipice of an extraordinary discovery, one that could find applications across various sciences, Venkat is encouraged to test his theory in the real world.

But what starts out as an experiment between a charismatic young professor and an eccentric older one soon descends into a game neither of them can control.

Convinced that Venkat's discovery has the originality and significance to change the narrative arc of mathematics, Perci understands that Venkat's theory, in essence, questions the idea of what is random and what is fated.

A surprising and deeply moving redemption, initiated by Perci, closes this stupendously modern film that is as much about the private equations of honour and chance, as it is about knowledge that can change the world.

Amitabh Bachchan lambasts electronic media again

After returning from attending the funeral of his old mentor Prakash Mehra, Amitabh Bachchan through his blog has lambasted the present electronic media that was present there to cover the event.

Just a few days back after attending Feroz Khan’s condolence meet, the ageing super star had rightfully vented out his frustration on the ever intruding electronic media members who at such events forget that sensitivity is expected during such occasions.

States Big B, “Prakash ji’s eldest son Sumeet returned from USA this morning and the cremation took place by the afternoon. Abhishek and I attended it, but the behavior of the electronic media at the crematorium was just disgusting.

No respect shown for the sensitivity of the occasion. No regard for the moment and no ethics at all in maintaining some decorum for this very private and sombre ritual.

All they were interested in was in getting that ‘bite’ or shoving their cameras inches away from your nose, at a moment when one desired peace and quiet. Shameful. But what of some of the mourners, if they can be called that!

They were no less. Pushing and shoving to get a position behind or near about the celebrity, so the cameras can catch them.”

He ends up with with saying, “I shall not dwell on this anymore. I may just burst a blood vessel.”

Kangana snubbed due to link up rumour with Barbara Mori's brother?

By Subhash K Jha

Director Anurag Basu, producer Rakesh Roshan and Hrithik Roshan have returned to Mumbai from Cannes while Barbara Mori, happy with her moment of red-carpeted fame has gone back to Mexico, all happy at the way the 9-minute trailer of Kites has been received at the international jamboree.

But the one voice of dissent in the glamorous event that we cannot hear thanks to the din of clinking champagne glasses, is Kangana Ranaut’s.

After the recent Adhyayan-Shahana Goswami episode where Kangana was linked to Kites’ other leading lady Barbara Mori’s brother (who apparently has no interest in women) Kangana has voluntarily gone into a shell, from which she was more than willing to emerge long enough to attend the Cannes event for Kites.

But no one invited Kangana! Strange, considering she’s the leading lady of the film.

Says a source close to Kangana, “Kangana was not told to accompany Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik and Anurag Basu although the director Anurag is very close to her and in fact was instrumental in recommending her for the role in Kites. We believe the team wanted to focus on the Hrithik-Barbara pair to give Kites a more international crossover appeal at Cannes.”

But doesn’t it appear exceedingly strange that the film’s leading lady was left out at such an important event, just to spotlight the leading man with another pair?

When questioned Rakesh Roshan washes his hands off the matter. “We ourselves were not sure till the last minute of what has happening, and who was going or not.

Even my brother Rajesh Roshan who has done the Kites music was left out because of the last-minute flurry. I think our co-producers Big Pictures would be the best people to comment on why Kangana couldn’t go.”

A representative of Big Pictures laughs off the matter saying. “I think Mr Rakesh Roshan would be able to comment on why Kangana wasn’t at Cannes.”
